BatterieZellFab / BatteReFab - Evaluation and conceptual design of an agile circular battery factory

The increasing focus on battery-electric drives is driving the development of battery systems. While today's R&D activities are aimed at large-volume, inflexible gigafactory facilities, the wbk Institute for Production Technology is working with Fraunhofer IPA to develop concepts for highly flexible battery cell production in small and medium quantities.

The aim of the two flagship projects is to meet volatile demand and growing individualisation, for example for e-bikes or medical technology. Together with various industry partners, a factory concept is being developed and evaluated in economic terms. The combination of agile production with flexible recycling approaches results in cross-life-cycle digitalisation. The projects will result in identified production volume ranges, business cases and modular production concepts.
