Securing locational advantages through collaboration: The joint development of software in the automotive industry is the focus of a major joint project with the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism under the leadership of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport.
The automotive industry is currently undergoing a massive upheaval. The advancing digitalisation of the vehicle poses key challenges for the entire industry. The proportion of value added by software in vehicles has been increasing continuously for years and OEMs have invested more heavily in software development in recent years. Open Source Software (OSS) offers companies the decisive opportunity to pool expertise, save costs and create standardised solutions through widespread use.
The aim of the joint project is to develop recommendations for action and implementation measures this year in order to sustainably strengthen collaboration with the help of OSS in the automotive industry in Baden-Württemberg. In particular, small and medium-sized companies should be able to benefit more from the advantages and opportunities offered by OSS in the future. A key component is the establishment of a new ‘Free and Open Source Software Community’ (FOSS) in Baden-Württemberg. Small and medium-sized companies are to be specifically integrated via the FOSS community, familiarise themselves with the advantages of joint software development and implement processes and standards for efficient and legally compliant use under guidance.
