Stakeholder dialogue on zero-emission buses in local public transport in Baden-Württemberg

Climate protection is one of the most important tasks of our time. Especially in the transport sector, the mobility transformation toward electromobility is considered to be a cornerstone of climate protection. One pillar of the mobility transformation is the strengthening of local public transport and the associated nationwide electrification of bus fleets. The State Agency for New Mobility Solutions and Automotive Baden-Württemberg (e-mobil BW), together with Verband deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen Baden-Württemberg e.V. (VDV BW) and Verband Baden-Württembergischer Omnibusunternehmer e.V. (WBO), supports discussions in the state on the topic of sustainable local public transport.

In this context, e-mobil BW has initiated the stakeholder dialog on Zero-Emission Buses with Baden-Württemberg transport companies and bus operators, public transport authorities and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport as an in-house measure. The goal is to support the state of Baden-Württemberg in its transition to zero-emission buses (battery and fuel cell buses) in public transportation and to position it as a pioneer in this field. In addition to annual status meetings on the topics of procurement of electric buses, development and expansion of the associated charging infrastructure and the challenges that may arise during the rollout, Baden-Württemberg transport companies and bus operators will receive assistance to benefit from the funding guideline for buses with alternative drive systems in local public transport and the associated charging infrastructure announced by the German Federal Ministry of Transport (BMVI) and the funding provided by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport. Within the framework of both guidelines, e-mobil BW is preparing a funding application template (e.g. through a technical specification). Further measures and dialogues are being worked out.
