Conducting a survey of logistics companies
Emission-free commercial vehicles with battery or fuel cell drives can make a significant contribution to reducingCO2 emissions in transport in the future. The requirements for charging and refuelling infrastructure can be determined top-down based on data on overall German mileage and broken down regionally. A supplementary option for more precise localisation of infrastructure requirements is provided by the survey of logistics companies using the bottom-up approach, which was carried out and evaluated as part of this project.
In cooperation with various transport and logistics associations, e-mobil BW designed a questionnaire at the beginning of 2024 and wrote to around 2,000 logistics companies in Baden-Württemberg (duplicates possible in the case of multiple memberships). Planned purchases of battery and fuel cell-powered vehicles in EC vehicle classes N1-N3 were surveyed, as well as the expected proportion of zero-emission drive technologies in the vehicle fleet. The typical distances travelled by the vehicles were also included in the survey. The data was collected for the periods up to 2025, 2026 to 2028 and 2029 to 2030. 129 companies completed the survey on energy requirements and future vehicle planning. The data collected was analysed by the Fraunhofer IAO.
On 3 July, the results of the survey were presented to the public online by e-mobil BW with the participation of the logistics associations. A results paper was published in August 2024.
