Vision Zero — road safety

1. Data for more road safety

Up to now, analyses of road conditions or road safety have generally been carried out on a regular basis and using annual key figures. Areas of application are being defined in which anonymized, continuously updated vehicle data from moving traffic can simplify and accelerate these analyses in the future.

The first step is to determine whether, by analyzing specific vehicle data, the established results of the road condition survey and evaluation, or of the network analyses of the road safety screening project, can be plausibly approximated. For this purpose, the characteristic values of surface damage, waviness, micro-weather data, and analyzed assistance system interventions are matched with specific results from analyses conducted by the Ministry of Transport in a pilot district. Depending on the results of the evaluations, the topic can either be studied in more detail or extended to other districts for validation.

2. Safe infrastructure for automated driving

Furthermore, infrastructure data and data from vehicles can also be used to make mobility safer. Cooperations in the form of a real-life laboratory are to advance the development of new infrastructures and focus on data transfer. An exchange of knowledge with existing infrastructures and test areas is encouraged.
