The study "Potentials of the hydrogen and fuel cell industry in Baden-Württemberg" was presented in Stuttgart on 20 February 2020. It was prepared by Roland Berger GmbH on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector. In the study, the consultancy found that Baden-Württemberg companies and industry experts see significant market growth for hydrogen and fuel cells worldwide through 2030 and especially beyond. The expected future market growth will also be accompanied by significant reductions compared to today's costs, which will make the technology increasingly competitive in economic terms. In order to exploit future value creation potential in the hydrogen and fuel cell industry and to remain competitive in the international arena, it will be crucial in the next two to five years to further develop and expand existing competencies through investments.
To realise the economic and other potentials of the technology, targeted measures by all relevant stakeholders are necessary. According to the study, the following recommendations for action are the most important ones for stakeholders in Baden-Württemberg:
1. Development of a H2 roadmap for Baden-Württemberg
2. Improvement of competitiveness of local „H2 Champions“
3. Promotion of local H2 projects as showcases for the world
