SAFE BW: A safe charging network for the whole of Baden-Württemberg

While others are still discussing the development of publicly accessible charging infrastructure for electric cars, Baden-Württemberg has already taken action. A reliable charging infrastructure extends across the entire state, in a 10-kilometer grid. A consortium of around 80 members led by EnBW bundled its competences and successfully set up the SAFE BW project - a comprehensive and safe charging network for electric vehicles in Baden-Württemberg. A basic charging network was established with a minimum of one charging station with a charging power of at least 22KW in a grid of approximately 10 by 10 kilometres. In addition, a fast charging network was established with a minimum of one fast charging station with at least 50KW charging power in a grid of approximately 20 by 20 kilometres, which was integrated into the basic charging network. Over 320 existing charging stations were also integrated in the charging network. In addition, the consortium has installed over 130 charging stations. With this, SAFE BW provides a network of charging stations for the drivers of electric cars covering the entire state - also in rural areas. The state sent a clear signal with SAFE BW in favour of electric cars and at the same time also counters range anxiety.
