Pilot projects in the run-up to the obligation to cover parking spaces with photovoltaic systems

According to the Climate Protection Act of Baden-Württemberg, it will be obligatory to install photovoltaic systems when new parking spaces are built from 1 January 2022. Against this backdrop, the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy sector of Baden-Württemberg called for the funding of pilot projects at the end of 2020 in which a combination of photovoltaics and charging infrastructure must be installed on existing parking spaces. The aim is to use the projects to gain experience and knowledge on how solar power generation and e-mobility can best be coupled in parking lots. The Ministry of the Environment is funding two pilot projects in Berkheim and Schwäbisch-Hall with just under 300,000 euros. The plants, which were selected by an external jury, are to be built this year. Funding is being provided for the investment costs of the innovative solar roofing on the parking decks, for the charging infrastructure and connection technology, and the hardware and software required for load control. The construction of the PV system itself is not subsidised.

Funded projects:

1. Berkheim (District of Biberach)
Project Management: Max Wild GmbH
Solar park: 256 kWp
Charging infrastructure: ten charging points with 22 kW each

2. Schwäbisch-Hall
Project Management: District of Schwäbisch-Hall
Solar park: 749 kWp
Charging infrastructure: eight charging points with 22 kW each
