The software and electronics architecture in vehicles is becoming increasingly important and complex, requiring new software and IT security expertise. In order to support small and medium-sized enterprises in particular in their transition to software-based vehicle architectures, the state has launched a funding programme for free and open source software (FOSS) in the automotive industry. With the help of this funding, small and medium-sized enterprises have low-threshold access to strategic, legal and technical initial advice on software development issues. The establishment of the FOSS-LÄND community strengthens expertise in the cluster, promotes joint software development and ensures competitiveness along the supply chain.
As part of the Software-Defined Car (SofDCar, 2021-24) project funded by the federal government, leading companies and research institutions in the state are addressing key issues relating to software in the vehicle of the future. The mission has presented its initial findings in a paper. It is essential for the automotive cluster in Baden-Württemberg that the many small and medium-sized suppliers are able to participate in the future value creation potential.
